NEWSBRIEF - Canada bans bovine growth hormone. The Health Protection Branch (HPB) of the Canadian government has banned the use of bovine growth hormone (rBST) to increase milk production in cows. Although there is not a single study showing that milk from rBST- treated cows is safe for human consumption the HPB chose to base their rejection on concerns for the health of the cows. Monsanto, the major manufacturer of rBST, is appealing the ruling.
